Video Game Purists Episode 1: Kickin It Old School

Fred and Trees return to discuss, um, the fact that this podcast feed keeps changing all the time. Well this time it’s as permanent as a podcast gets. Weekly shows, Fred and Trees, talking about video games new and old. We may have other shows, we may have more GH101, and we may soon see the return of Jam but nothing is set in stone yet. For now the two just get back into the old discussions with why Fred abandoned his lecture series, what Trees has been up to, and a few questions from the community.

The Wizard: 30th Anniversary Retrospective

The Wizard released on December 15, 1989 and was unsuccessful with both critics and the general public. Still, it rallied up a hype machine for a company almost synonymous with video games at the time: Nintendo. Armed with child star Fred Savage from the extremely popular show The Wonder Years, this video game take on Tommy has become a cult favorite for those that were children of the late 80s. Fred dives into the relevant content and culture surrounding the film that gets close to home if you were born within a very specific time period.

This week Fred was out of commission but the community (and a new podcast) teamed up to make some great content. It starts off with the History of Pokemon as told by Chase from the Learned from Gaming podcast and it then flows to a much larger discussion on the legacy of Pokemon as it relates to the just releasing Pokemon Sword and Shield. This discussion includes Chase as well but also involves community members Vos and Los. In fact, this episode is a crossover with Los’ recently released The Talking Place podcast.
And Now It’s Time For Some News

This week is one of transition, but that doesn’t stop new content. At the start are several announcements to the future of the show followed by a cut news segment recorded by Fred and Austin for the Halloween Special. If you haven’t been keeping up with retro news, there’s a lot of good stuff here.
