Resident Evil: The Musical. Yes, You Read That Correct

No guys, this is not a April fools joke. Japan really does have all the fun when it comes to weird shows to bring to the musical scene. With the success of Phoenix Wright in the musical scene I guess it was only a matter of time before Capcom looked at their other franchises. I guess we just weren’t expecting Resident Evil to be the second choice. What’s wrong Capcom, Viewtiful Joe too super hero for you, Okami too arty or maybe its because you want us just to forget about Clover studios. Still, Street Fighter? I’d dig a Zangief opera number.

Maybe its part of the 20th anniversary celebration. Unfortunately for the fans this is only coming to Japan, at least for now. If I had the expendable income I would learn Japanese and fly to Japan to see the show. But since that will unlikely happen here’s my suggestions for some songs they should feature in the musical. I’m assuming this will be based of the first original Playstaion title where you play the game as Jill Valentine. Warning: the following songs may spoil the plot of the game.

Jam’s Dream List for the Resident Evil 2 Remake

with one comment

Capcom really has been trying to do a make good with its long term fans even if that make good is them just re-releasing all their old games. With the recently released Devil May Cry 4 HD Remaster, Mega Man Legacy collection, and heck there is even talk the Onimusha series might make a comeback (yes please), Capcom has now pulled a Final Fantasy 7 announcement and revealed that it’s remaking Resident Evil 2.  Arguably one of my favourite games of all time, this is the title that got me hooked to the series back on the original Playstation. I’m certainly excited for the project and this article covers what I’d like to see from the release. Keep in mind a lot of this “wish list” is completely barmy and probably won’t happen but hey one can dream.

Let’s Play Bio Hazard (Japanese version of Resident Evil)

leave a comment »

On the 24 hour live stream Fred and the group decided to randomly start Bio Hazard, the Japanese version of Resident Evil.  After breezing through the mansion in less than 90 minutes, Fred and Jam decided to get together a second round and play through the rest of the game.  Unfortunately much of the game audio in the first half of the second video was muted, but the important parts and of course the ending portion, are all intact, loud, and clear.  Also Fred and Jam have a running commentary the whole time that was not muted so it’s not so bad.  We decided to do the full Mo Disk, save everyone, ideal Jill ending and wrapped the whole thing in just over 4 hours total (over 2 videos).  The play list is found above, enjoy.

Resident Evil Origins Collection is coming

re_origins_coll_reveal_box

Were you sad that there was no physical release of Resident Evil HD Remaster in the West? Fred and I were so upset we imported the damn game for PS3 from Asia.

Well turns out if we had a little patience we only needed to wait till 19th January in North America or 22nd January in Europe to get the Resident Evil Origins collection for Xbox One or PS4. This comes complete with both the HD remaster of Resident Evil and Resident Evil 0.

Capcom also revealed Wesker as a playable character in Resident Evil 0, which is kinda cool I guess. Would still rather have a Barry Burton mode but I guess a man can dream. If you don’t want the physical game don’t worry the game is also coming digitally for PS4, PS3, Xbox One and Xbox 360. I guess there will also be a PC version but this hasn’t been announced yet.

Yeah I already own Resident Evil Remaster but I will totally buy this once I finally get a next gen console because I’m that guy. This will keep us tied over with plenty of old school Resident Evil until we hear more about the Resident Evil 2 Remake.

Resident Evil 2 Remake Ends Fan Made Remake, Happy Ending Ensues

re2_box

Ever since the recent announcement from Capcom that a Resident Evil 2 remake is incoming, we here at GH101 have been wondering what will become of the ongoing development of a fan made remake.  It was revealed yesterday by PC Gamer that Capcom has officially send a cease and desist (C&D) order to those developers halting the project.  On the plus side, it seems everyone wins in this situation unless you were planning on playing the Unreal 4 developed project as it entered completion this summer.  The team working on that project have announced that its ultimate goal was to have Capcom proper release a remake and furthermore that Capcom is meeting with them to discuss this development.  It’s possible the team could be brought in as consultants or even contractors to work on whatever this remake will be, which I am certain is barely in the planning stages.

Fred’s Take: I’m always cautious with remakes (as opposed to remasters, which often take the original game and upres or upscale the assets) because by definition changes and creative liberties will be made.  It could go either way, but the feedback I keep hearing from contemporary games press is that most hope to thwart tank controls, ink ribbons, and possibly even the static camera perspective (opting possibly for the forward thinking over-the-shoulder cam started in Resident Evil 4). As an avid fan of those early games, I think that all three of those aspects should still be included and you can easily overcome the tank controls by offering the modern controls found in Resident Evil HD Remaster.  It does appear, however, that given the fact that the fan remake was using the over-the-shoulder cam and given the current landscape of games (not to mention the term “remake”) that we very well may lose those static angles I covet so much.  Who knows what the overall changes will be and I will most assuredly play whatever this becomes when it finally sees the light of day sometime in the next 2-3 years.  I also dream of a world where two teams make an old school and new school version of the same game, utilizing the features of both, but I can’t possibly see how that’s an effective development cycle.
