Video Game Purists Ep 88: Turning 20
This week is more topical than anything. After Trees and Fred discuss their brief outings, there are discussions on porn (crypto and gaming), movies, and the 20th Anniversaries of Xbox and Gamecube. On the gaming front Trees is sticking with Voice of Cards and enjoying more Forza Horizon 5 while Fred is playing the new Magic: The Gathering expansion and Ghostbusters Remastered.
RetroActive Episode 4: Star Wars: Obi-Wan (2001)
RetroActive Podcast Feed
The RetroActive podcast returns with Fred going solo to discuss the Xbox launch title Star Wars: Obi-Wan. Released at a time where the brand of Star Wars was wavering after Episode I and Microsoft’s new PC as a console concept was a big risk, it seems almost fitting that this title has remained exclusive to its original platform. Fred discusses the culture context, development history, and elements of this lackluster title that was a curiosity he couldn’t pass up.
Video Game Purists Ep 41: Wicked Awesome Vibrations and Sound
This week it’s all about unusually warm weather, gearing up for the holidays, and oh yeah those new consoles came out. Fred and Trees don’t discuss the intricacies of what they do, but rather the fun times to be had trying to get one. Trees has been working his way through Far Cry Primal while Fred tested out his Series X with GTA IV, Tetris Effect Connected, and Gears 5.
VGP Episode 7: Shenanigans at the Lock-In
This week Fred and Trees decided to stay indoors for no reason whatsoever. Despite this they still managed to replace hot water heaters, dishwashers, attack birds in dryer vents, talk the new Xbox, shop for retro games and comics, not to mention wrap up Watch Dogs and enjoy some wholesome hours in “Warzone”, the new free-to-play game/mode for Modern Warfare.

It’s about two weeks late, but the original Xbox is 15 years old now and we figured it was high time to celebrate. As the first attempted console/PC hybrid, there’s a lot to say and talk about surrounding the history, development, and release of the original Xbox. Fred and Jam go through all of it, including the launch titles and gaming enthusiast opinions, before finishing strong with a slew of notable games for Microsoft’s first console.

Backward Compatibility on the Xbox One: How’s the List?
It’s almost time. That famed firmware coming November 12, 2015 to the Xbox One that not only brings NXE (New Xbox Experience/Windows 10) but also backward compatibility with Xbox 360 games. Honestly many users will never use this feature, despite what Microsoft marketing has you believing. Then again, this seems to be the first generation where many of my friends straight up sold off last gen’s console and entire library to help fund their newest purchase, so who knows. Either way you will soon be able to play Xbox 360 games on your Xbox One, which will broaden the library of games you can play and hopefully see you returning to the classics that graced last generation. Oh wait, there’s a catch. You don’t get every game from the Xbox 360 and in fact you don’t even get 10 percent of every game released – digitally as well as at retail – but rather a list of exactly 104 titles available at launch. If you didn’t see a long list of games you don’t intend to ever replay coming, then you probably don’t have much experience with how things like this work. Now given how well the backward compatibility fared on the Xbox 360 for original Xbox (a good majority of the games were eventually playable in some form) we may very well see an impressive list spawn but for now there are only a strong handful of games worth boasting about. They are all long games though so you could probably kill about six months trying to replay what will be available. As of this morning the official list is out, I personally have been using the feature for almost six months, and the following article will tell you how it works, what to expect, and give my take on what games are worth utilizing this feature for.
