Podcast: Secret of Mana Game Club
This week Fred and Jam re-live the adventures of Hero, Girl, and Sprite as they uncover the mana sword and take on a dark empire. Originally developed as the first SNES Playstation CD game, business decisions obviously forced this back onto a cartridge with impressive results. Oh yeah, and we never played it in full until now.
Podcast: Crimson Butterfly

This week Fred and Jam tackle a horror game that is often mentioned as one of the scariest and best horror games to ever release. Oddly enough, neither of the guys have played it despite being self-proclaimed survival horror fans. Regardless, they tackle this popular title about a pair of twin girls who descend upon the spirit-infested Lost Village and uncover the tragedies that happened there.
Podcast: Would You Kindly
This week Fred and Jam tackle the Bioshock game club. Irrational Games (as 2K Boston) follow up the System Shock series with a new underwater utopia gone wrong and plagued by warring factions. With inspirations from popular culture and depression era architecture, Bioshock proves that the devil really is in the details.
Podcast: Shadow of Rome Game Club
Between Mega Man games Inafune and a team from Capcom made a hybrid action/stealth title for the PS2 that re-created solving the murder of Julius Caesar. It released in February 2005, just one month before God of War, and provided one of the funniest, craziest, and most challenging game clubs we’ve tackled to date. Join Fred, Jam, and special guest Trees from EZMU as they conquer Shadow of Rome.
Podcast: Dino Crisis 1 & 2 Game Club
This week we are talking about Capcom’s survival horror titles in a dinosaur-infested facility, Dino Crisis and Dino Crisis 2. A testing ground for new survival horror mechanics, it’s interesting to see the decisions made in what is one of the more interesting two titles of the original Playstation’s late titles.
Podcast: Yakuza Game Club
Yakuza is a series that has always been semi-labeled the “GTA of the East”, which even before we played it we knew wasn’t accurate. In fact, this hidden gem is an action-heavy brawler with great cinematic effect and detailed nuance to things like body language and facial features. We tackle the original PS2 title from Sega that spawned one of the most successful series for the company.
Podcast: Super Metroid Game Club
This week Fred and Jam tackle the beloved SNES title Super Metroid. Building upon the fantastic foundation of the original, many consider this title to be their favorite game of all time. Well neither of us had ever played it, so we gave it the old college try 20 years after release.

This week we are joined by listener Jason (@albirhiza) to discuss our Shmup Game Club: Giga Wing 2, Velocity (Ultra), Radiant Silvergun, Power-Up, and Sine Mora. Campaigns, tactics, high scores, and more are covered as we dissect some of the more contemporary additions to the genre.
Podcast: Buffy the Vampire Slayer Game Club
In the late 1990s Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer television show became a phenomenon. Along with its grand success that launched quite a few television careers, the show’s unique take on both teenage and adult themes coupled with a “monster of the week” outline was perfect for a video game. A sordid development that delayed the title more than two years and migrating over two systems, Buffy found a home as an Xbox exclusive that both charms and makes you want to rip your hair out.
Podcast: Guardian Heroes Game Club

This week we are joined by Horseplay podcast’s Yogi Lopez (@Yogizilla) and freelance retro writer Jam (@Jamalais) to discuss Sega’s gem for the Saturn Guardian Heroes. A surprisingly deep hack-and-slash with RPG elements and even a fully controlled NPC, this title ushered out 2D sprites and a genre that was much beloved in the early-to-mid 1990s.
