E3 2016: All Games Pre-E3 Show

pre3_post

We know that E3 2016 is not retro, but for some of us contemporary games can hold as much value as games of the past. For that reason, and because GH101 hosts are involved in the All Games E3 coverage, we will be providing those shows here. If you are not interested, just skip anything that starts with “E3 2016.” We will be back to retro after E3.

This episode touches on the pre-E3 announcements and brief pressers including Destiny: Rise of Iron, Watch Dogs 2, and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. There is a brief discussion on Sony’s choice to not bring the PS4 Neo to E3. All music is from the games listed above.

As times change so do video games with developers and publishers scrambling to keep up.  There are several ways to handle a classic franchise presented to a contemporary audience, which is fully covered in at the beginning of the show.  Of the most scrutinized is the reboot.  In this episode Jam and Fred debate the definition of a reboot and then get into the many attempts that have been made in the world of gaming to make what is old become new again.

We all love old video games, but the frank reality is that as they age our consoles run solely on obsolete technology.  As the basic capabilities of modern hardware increases, so does the ability to mod classic consoles to keep up.  In addition, new accessories also come on the scene to serve needs that were either impossible or too expensive in the past.  This episode covers the earliest cartridge-based consoles and the many modifications and accessories you can get for them.  In part 1 of this two-part series we get a bit technical, but also present the many options you can potentially research.
