Video: Let’s Compare Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic

leave a comment »

Thanks to the backward compatibility program on Xbox One, you can now play Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) in 1080p on the Xbox One and 4K on the Xbox One X. In this video we compare the resolution and performance of the original Xbox version, the Xbox 360 emulated version, both Xbox One versions, and finally the PC (with an without mods). This video is mastered in 4K at 60 fps, so if you have a screen that supports it we highly recommend viewing on that.

Version Comparison: Metroid II vs. AM2R

with 2 comments

Back in our 24 hour livestream, Fred did an impromptu episode of Version, our video series that compares the different versions of video games.  This time he delved into Metroid IIReturn of Samus and compared it to AM2R (Another Metroid 2 Remake), the fan created and now taken down remake.  This has also been added to both the Version and 24 Hour Livestream playlists.

Version: Resident Evil 2

leave a comment »

Resident Evil 2 (or Biohazard 2 as it’s known in Japan) is one of the most popular games in the series and has had a numerous amount of ports. In this video we examine all of the content, plot, and changes between the original PS1 release of Resident Evil 2 and all other versions that came afterward.

Special thanks to the Play Old PC Games blog (http://www.play-old-pc-games.com/2014/09/04/resident-evil-2/), the-horror.com, and the Resident Evil wiki on Wikia. All footage was captured by actual gameplay on hardware save for the final emulation comparison.

Version: Doom

leave a comment »

I was gonna write a retrospective on this, but honestly in podcast form we’ve covered Doom not once, but twice!  From those episodes came a project that has taken six months and over six hours to put together in one near 15 minute video.  I compare the PC, 32x, Jaguar, SNES, PS1, 3DO, Saturn, and GBA versions of Doom so you don’t have to, complete with bad language and snarky remarks (sorry parents).  Check out this version of Versions for Doom, but fair warning: there is some adult language.

Version: Resident Evil Intro Movies

leave a comment »

In this episode of Version, we dissect the different intro movies found in the original Resident Evil.  It was heavily altered in the US versions so we hunted down a Japanese version to compare the difference and even included the Gamecube remake for posterity.

Version: Mortal Kombat

In this new video series we dissect the home versions of the arcade classic Mortal Kombat.  Check out the roughly 10 minute video for a quick retrospective on the title and the craze that resulted in September 1993 as many kids brought this violent title home.
