Podcast: CIB – Complete in Box

This week Fred is joined by Chip Cella of the B-Team and Derrick H of All Games and Dead Pixel Live fame to discuss how games used to come packaged. This includes the box, instructions, and a bunch of freebies we pay good money for today.
Opening Song – Joe Esposito You’re The Best
Closing Song – Iron Maiden Run to the Hills
Podcast: Legends of Rayman

This week Fred is joined by Chip Cella of the B-Team Podcast to discuss one of the few colorful platformers born completely from the 3D generation, despite the first game playing on a 2D plain. Ubisoft’s Michel Ansel all but saved the then struggling developer/publisher and gave way to a challenging but fun series starring a character with no limbs.
Opening Song – Rayman Theme from the original Rayman on PS1
Closing Song – Madder by Groove Armada (Fred incorrectly refers to this song as Hoodlum in the show)
Podcast: Bring the Action Home

This week we divert from retro games a bit to discuss the wonderful world of action figures from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Fred is joined by Shawn of Knuckleballer Radio, Andy of 42 Level One, and Derrick of Dead Pixel Live for a random discussion that spans from Star Wars to Bucky O’Hare.
Podcast: Are You One of Us?

This week Fred flies solo to discuss the short live but highly coveted niche console the Turbografx-16. With an 8-bit processor and a 16-bit graphics card this Japan-centric console by NEC only hung around for 4-5 years but has a cult following almost as intense as Sega. This episode covers its release, different versions, Japanese counterpart the PC Engine, and of course the expensive CD expansion and games.
Podcast: Me Money Bin

This week Fred and Trees are discussing Capcom’s Disney games. In the 8-bit era Capcom received the Disney license and created a little game called DuckTales based on the popular Saturday morning cartoon. Not only was it a mass success, but it was an excellent game that gave way to a whole slew of 8-bit and 16-bit gems on Nintendo and Sega consoles.
Podcast: NADC – Not Another Doom Clone

This week Fred is flying solo and discussing the origins of the Doom clone. Named for early first person shooters, a little startup company called id Software created a reboot of Wolfenstein that eventually led to a demon slaughter in hell known as Doom. From there the flood gates opened and it seemed everyone had a game where you ran around and violently killed legions of enemies.
Gaming History X: Speed Round

This week Fred is greeted by a whole bunch of guests: Rob “Trees” from EZ Mode Unlocked, Chip Cella from The B-Team, Eli “Sodoom” of Knuckleballer Radio and Shawn Freeman of both Knuckleballer and Zombie Cast. For this month’s GHX the guys are discussing various topics in speed rounds comparing contemporary game design to retro or classic game design.

This week Fred is teamed up again by Andy (@damien14273) and Ali (@thealmiesta) of the 42 Level One podcast (@42levelone) to discuss the second and final part of the history of Sonic the Hedgehog. For the second part we cover Sonic’s 3D outings including the sordid tale of Sonic Xtreme (and its many other project names and iterations) as well as all other 3D Sonic titles up to 2006 (Sonic the Hedgehog on 360/PS3/PC). Although it ends badly, trust us, it’s a great ride.
Opening Song – Living in the City from Sonic R (Saturn)
Closing Song – Sonic X Theme from Sonic X cartoon show
Podcast: Hey Everybody It’s Tuesday!

This week we join the masses in our endless love for the one, the only, Ryan Davis. Fred is joined by Trees and we discuss the career of Ryan Davis, including some off the wall discussions about Jeff Gerstmann’s looks, and the end of the console team at GameSpot that gave way to the Giant Bomb web site. After some kind farewells the boys talk about Ryan’s other passion than gaming: movies. Specifically retro games licensed from movies that they really enjoy and from there the banter takes the show off the rails.
Both clips for the intro and outro are from episodes of the Giant Bombcast.
